Two choices of Farm

  1. Robotic Dairy Farm

This is a 120-year-old, 5th generation Farm. The Robotic Shed was established in 2011 on 80 hectares, (200 acres) and uses a purpose built shed with 4 De Laval robotic milkers.  The cows are a Friesian/Jersey mix – known as  a kiwi cross. 150-300 Cows are milked voluntarily when they want to, and you will be able to view this.

Each cow wears an electromagnetic identifying tag around their neck that stores information on their milk production, flow and health. The computer’s memory then guides the animal through a series of gates to be milked or returned to grazing. You will hear how the Farmer is able to monitor the herd from afar – both for their welfare and milk quality and production

Discover concepts of animal breeding and hear how best practices are engaged to manage quality with balanced environmental impact. Visit the milking shed and learn how today’s farmer optimizes herd output, and view the cows self-manage their milking

2. Traditional Herringbone Dairy Farm

1 hour timed to suit milking, ideally 2.30pm. Introduction to farming practices, 600 Fresian and Jersey Cows. Closed during the winter drying off season. The Farmer is also a trained Vet and can speak fluent Spanish.

Discover concepts of animal breeding and hear how best practices are engaged to manage quality with balanced environmental impact. Visit the milking shed and learn how today’s farmer optimizes herd output, and view the cows self-manage their milking
