Get the kids sorted on the Pump Tracks and Child Friendly areas. The Gallagher bike park at the Grassroots Trust Velodrome is ideal for children. They can progress from the flat, sealed bike area to the gravel pump track and skills park. There is also a playground there. For the more advanced grommets (and the big kids) there is a brand new, world class, sealed, pump track – Velosolutions Pump Track. You will find it in town, behind the local pool, on Dominion Ave.
Come and ride your BMX where our Olympians train! Cambridge BMX Park is located on Milton Street in Leamington. check out their facility and information here, new members are always welcome – just rock up on a Thursday night to Points Hut and talk to a committee member for information.
TE AWA RIVER RIDE
The world class Te Awa River Ride, Cambridge Section. The Te Awa Trail starts at Ngaruawahia north of Hamilton and ends south of Lake Karapiro. The Cambridge Section extends from the Avantidrome, through Cambridge and out to the Lake. It is a safe, 3m wide concrete path (mostly) that is shared by cyclists, walkers and runners and has stunning views of the Mighty Waikato River and Lake Karapiro. Grab refreshments at “The Bikery” at the velodrome or “Podium Cafe” at the lake.
WAIKATO RIVER TRAIL
Explore our 105km Waikato River Trail by bike – the River Trail follows the Mighty Waikato River, which is super scenic. You can break the trail up into sections, the northern most part being popular as it includes the Arapuni swing bridge and dam. Commencing at 404 Horahora Road, South of Cambridge and extending to Atiamuri. Smash it out in one day (for the extra fit) or extend out to 3 days and around 35km per day. Transport, Bike Hire and accommodation options are available. Ask at Cambridge i-SITE.
WORLD CLASS Velodrome
Ride like a pro at the Grassroots Trust Velodrome when you book in for a session on the velodrome track!! This is exhilarating and anyone who can ride a bike can book in for a “Have-a-go” Session, as long as you are of a certain height (over 135cm) or ability. The experienced staff take your nerves away as they expertly guide you through the process. Do it!!
For the keen mountain bikers, MTB Parks & Trails. Cambridge is 20 minutes from the exciting Te Miro MTB Park and 40 minutes from Mt Pirongia MTB Park. Te Miro offers a range of trails from fairly flat Lake Edge, family friendly to expert black runs and everything in between. There is a park there and BBQ facilities. https://www.temiromtbclub.co.nz/. There is also a fun MTB Track behind the Avantidrome that drops down onto the Te Awa River Ride.
