Cambridge Repertory Society
14th-28th September. 2019 at the Gaslight Theatre, Cambridge

Cambridge Repertory Society is proud to present its latest production of Les Liaisons Dangereuses, a deliciously wicked, darkly compelling black comedy about corruption and seduction in pre-revolutionary France.

The Marquise de Merteuil (Janine Swainson) and the Vicomte de Valmont (Matt Silvester) have devised a way to relieve the boredom of their aristocratic lives using sex and sexual politics to humiliate, degrade and wound others. These despicable, but intriguing characters manipulate all around them – Madame de Volanges (Lucinda Heslin-Wightman) and her innocent daughter (Sylvia Neild), Madame to Tourvel (Catherine Wilde) and the Chevalier Danceny (Jared Wooldridge) – leaving despair and sorrow in their wake.

The cast also includes Tracey Barlow (as Emilie, a courtesan), Edite Lindenberg as Valmont’s aunt, and brothers Louis and Bryn Tomlinson as various servants and footmen.

Based on Pierre Choderlos de Laclos’ 1782 novel, Christopher Hampton’s play still resonates today with acid dialogue and brazen audacity. It is, by turns, humorous (with a dark streak) and shocking at the depths to which Merteuil and Valmont will go to achieve their aims.

Director, Dave Stearns, has gathered a cast of new and experienced actors and a dedicated crew are providing period costumes and setting.

The season opens on 14th September and runs for two weeks with tickets available from www.eventfinda.co.nz or Cambridge Paper Plus.

Audiences are advised that the play contains adult and sexual themes and may not be suitable for younger children.
