Santa’s coming to town
Mark the date in your calendar – the Cambridge Christmas Parade is scheduled for 3 December 2023, with floats parading from 2pm through the main streets of Cambridge.
Vicki Ewing a Cambridge isite volunteer, contracts as Parade Manager to organise the annual Parade on behalf of the community. Long serving sponsors New World, Kaz Design, Cambridge Community Board and Waipa District Council have reconfirmed their support for this year’s event. Parade partners include Cambridge isite, The Breeze, Cambridge News and The Rotary Club of Cambridge.
The parade will start at 2pm and is expected to last around 45 minutes. Invites are now open for businesses, community groups, schools and other organisations to book their spot in the Parade. Businesses are $40 to enter, with community groups and schools able to participate for free.
The theme for 2023 is ‘Santa’s Workshop’.
The 4 categories for this year’s Floats will be:
· Pre-Schools
· Schools
· Community Groups
· Businesses
Each category winner will receive a $250 New World Voucher. The overall winner will be chosen from the category winners to receive the crown as the best float and a $500 New World Voucher.
Cambridge isite General Manager Ruth Crampton, appreciates the funding from community groups and businesses after Pub Charities were unable to fund the event. “We were a little nervous of being able to run this cost-neutral event, after they declined our application” says Crampton, “but with the incredible generosity of New World and Waipa Networks this has enabled the shortfall to be met.”
Santa and Mrs Claus have confirmed that they can swoop in to attend the parade, and then head to his Grotto at the Town Hall directly following the parade, so children can visit and let Santa know their Christmas wishlist.
The Christmas Festival being held at the Town Hall, has also managed to secure Santa Claus to visit each of the following weekends in the lead up to Christmas, so keep an eye out for those timings in the weeks ahead.
