Tee up a golf trip with us

Fancy a golf trip with a difference? May be it's time to take time out with friends and head to Cambridge, the town that make you feel at home.

Where else would you find a variety of courses which offers everything from the chance to play beside the country’s longest river or surrounded by luscious bush and mountains?

Cambridge is at the centre of a region that offers more than 40 golf courses, ranging from those with challenging holes and high–quality greens to somewhere you have to shoo a few sheep of the fairways.

What’s certain is you’ll find something to suit you and your friends during the day, while Cambridge offers a range of accommodation, pubs, cafes and restaurants to ensure you’ll also have plenty to do in the evenings. Here’s what’s on offer:

The oldest

Formed in 1900, Cambridge Golf Club is the oldest in the Waikato and offers 18 holes on tree–lined fairways besides the mighty Waikato River as it flows into beautiful Lake Karapiro. Visitors are welcome and NZGA members are offered discounts on green fees.

Play both sides of the river

The 2013 merger of the Lochiel and Narrows golf clubs has created the newest club in the region. Called Riverside, the club has 36 holes with 18 on each side of the Waikato River which flows past both courses. It’s one of only three clubs in the country that can offer 36 holes.

Get into hot water

Enjoy the hot springs at Okoroire, half an hour’s drive from Cambridge, where the local pub has its own 9–hole course on the banks of the Waihou River. It’s ideal for those who like a more casual stroll between greens and a cold beer and meal afterwards at the Okoroire Hotel, built in the 1880s.

Plenty for partners

If your partners are not into golf, they need not worry — Cambridge is a great place to spend a relaxing few days checking out the local shops and cafes, or taking mini–trips to aƩ ractions such as nearby Hobbiton or the Waitomo Caves.

Get on the water

Even the keenest golfer enjoys a break from the greens and fairways. With Lake Karapiro and the mighty Waikato River on our doorstep, there are plenty of activities to choose from. You can water ski, row or paddle in a canoe or kayak. Or you can fish for trout in the lake or nearby streams, or take a jet boat up the river.

At the end of the day ...

When you’ve enjoyed your day in the great outdoors, come home to Cambridge and spend a comfortable night either at one of our town’s eight motels or 75 bed and breakfasts.
