There you can enjoy a two-hour guided tour and learn the story of how the Alexander family's farm was turned into The Shire, as described by author J.R.R Tolkien.
Construction of the movie set began in March 1999 and filming began six months later with as many as 400 working on site, including actors Sir Ian McKellen (Gandalf), Elijah Wood (Frodo), Sir Ian Holm (Bilbo), Sean Astin (Sam), Billy Boyd (Pippin) and Dominic Monaghan (Merry). The set was rebuilt in 2011 for the making of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Hobbit: There and Back Again.
The Shire of Tolkien's Middle-earth comes to life as your guide shows you around the property. You'll see hobbit holes, The Green Dragon Inn and Mill as seen on the big screen.
Because it remains a working farm, children can also pet animals during their visit.
