Visit the projects' showcase site - the southern enclosure. Walking options: One to two hour walks within the southern and northern enclosures. Full day treks to Pukeatua peak, Maungatautari peak, or across the mountain. |
Albert StreetCambridge A hidden jewel, Lake Te Ko Utu has a well established walkway around its perimetre and seven different tracks leading down to it from street level. Access and car parking can be found at the main entrance off Albert Street. |
Thornton RoadCambridge Website The Cambridge Treet Trust is a non-profit volunteer organisation dedicated to keeping Cambridge beautiful. The aim of the trust is to plant and maintain trees in and around Cambridge in order to enhance the approaches to the town, protect the environment and keep alive the image of Cambridge as the Town of Trees. The trust is also involved in building new walkways, encouraging native birds to town and teaching local children how to care for the environment through lessons at the Nursery and Education centre. Plantings along all our town walkways include many different berry and nectar trees, to encourage native birds to come here and to stay here. |

Maungakawa RoadCambridge Lovely views over Cambridge area, native bush walk (approximately 20 minutes duration). Maungakawa offers a very good opportunity to see tui and wood pigeon. The area is particularly lovely during spring with the sea of daffodils and other spring flowers. From Thornton Rd drive past Oaklands subdivision and turn left onto Maungakawa Rd. The reserve is well signposted at the top of the hill. Approximately 8 minutes drive from central Cambridge. |
Leslie RoadPutaruru A flat easy walk to the beautiful blue natural spring (the water is bottled it's so good). Walk continues beyond the spring and is a combination of board walk and dirt track - a little steep in some parts. The stunningly clear waters of the river clearly show fish and the river grasses. From Cambridge - head south on SH 1. Drive through Tirau and take the Rotorua road. A couple of kilometres along this road turn right into Whites Rd, and then left into Leslie Rd. The carpark is to the right at the bottom of the hill. Brochures with directions are available at the Information Centre. Approximately 10 minutes past Tirau. |
Bank RoadTe Awamutu Between Te Awamutu and Ohaupo, Lake Ngarotot is a pleasant flat walk around the lake, suitable for most ages and levels of fitness. |
Ngaroto RoadTe Awamutu A short drive from Lake Ngaroto this stand of kahikatea trees is believed to be one of the largest in the North Island. A walk through farmland to reach the stand, then boardwalk. The brochure asks that you seek Waipa District Council approval before your visit. Wheelchair access requires a gate key. Brochures that also include the location of Lake Ngaroto are available at the Information Centre. |

Cambridge to Karapiro Te Awa Walk/Cycle Way

Leamington Connecting Cambridge to Karapiro is the recently completed Te Awa walk/cycle way which is just over 6km of dedicated pathway to the Mighty River Domain on the shores of Lake Karapiro. Mostly flat, the cycle way runs adjacent to Maungatautari Road and is an ejoyable safe way to explore beyond the town. |
