When Santa comes home....
New World Cambridge Christmas Parade is being held on Sunday 4th December 2016 at 2 pm - brings out the community spirit of our town as families take to the streets to clebrate the start of the festive season. Join us now!
Thousands of spectators - many of them children wide-eyed with joy - take every vantage point to watch a convoy of floats meander through the town.
More than 50 floats are expected this year, with 100's of volunteers having fun as they are cheered on by those watching.
To get the most from the parade, it's best to get into position well before 2pm when the parade leaves from its traditional start point beside the Town Clock at the corner of Alpha St and Victoria St.
Floats start to get ready from 12.45pm in Alpha St and from 1.15pm in Dick St before the parade starts at 2.00pm
The grassed area near the Town Clock is packed when the parade starts and a good tip is to consider watching from Victoria St or Duke St where the crowds are smaller and it's easier for children to see the action.
Organisers recommend the corners of Empire St/Duke St, and Duke St / Victoria St (beside the BNZ) as excellent vantage points.
The parade heads south from the Town Clock, down the left side of Victoria St, before turning left into Duke St. The floats turn into Commerce St before emerging into the northbound land of Victoria St for the return leg.
The parade, which has steadily grown in size and reputaion since the early 1990s, is over in plenty of time to enjoy a wander round Cambridge's shops and cafes.
